Ok, first things first, I'd like to apologise for the radio silence over the last week. I've been feeling very uninspired and needed to make the most of time evenings off work and shut off for a bit. Thankfully this much needed time out gave me loads of post ideas and things that I can't wait to get sharing with you, the first of which I shall now introduce you to.
I spend most of my time in my work clothes which are plain black and various combinations of the very few boring black clothes that I actually own. I know I could just buy more black clothes, and more interesting pieces to mix up outfits, but I hate black. As a teenager it was the main component of my wardrobe. Back then I really wasn't very happy and I've come to associate wearing large amounts of black and dark colours with that unhappiness. silly, perhaps, but I prefer to surround myself with colours and things that make me smile.
Anyway, I have this week off work and have been so looking forward to being able to wear the clothes that I want, and more importantly clothes with colour! So, after a bit of thinking and rummaging through my wardrobe I decided to set myself a little bit of a challenge - 5 Days, 5 Colours.
Other the next five days I must wear 5 different outfits each with a different colour focus. This was originally going to be a make-up challenge to try and get me using some of the many gorgeous pallets I've been collecting but never seem to use, but the idea of putting together posts focussed solely on make-up was a little too far out of my comfort zone so I thought I'd add in the outfit challenge too, as a way of making the most of not having to wear my work clothes!
So, here is day one's attempt at the 5 Days, 5 Colours challenge. I decided to start the week off with yellow. With the weather getting ever so slightly warmer and spring creeping ever closer it felt like a suitable colour to kick off the challenge - I also like how it looks with my hair which is a bonus!
Pinafore dress and Heart Print dress - both New Look (old)
This is a really simple outfit, I think that's what I like about it. There's no fussing, just two layered dresses and it's done. I usually add chunky necklaces to most of my outfits but the buttons on the pinafore create a little detailing and break up the top of the dress whilst the print on the second dress provides some much needed colour and a point of focus. Unsurprisingly this outfit also features a peter pan collar, something which will always add bonus points to an outfit!
Now, I feel this is a good time to clarify that I don't make a habit of wearing my hair in bunches. In fact I don't remember ever having my hair in bunches since I was four, expect for fancy dress of course. I was just playing around in front of the mirror (as you do) and thought it would be funny to tie my hair in bunches and pretend to be a doll for a bit. Weirdly dolls, especially china dolls, really scare me and yet I'll jump and the chance to look even vaguely like one. Josh found my new look rather amusing, saying I looked like someone from a horror film, before the killings before adding that it would obviously be me who would be doing the killing. I took that as a compliment - it was a compliment right?
Any, enough of my psychotic behaviour the make-up....
Yellow - Beauty UK | Vorpal - Urban Decay | Jabberwocky - Urban Decay | Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner - Collection 2000 | Liquid Liner - Natural Collection | Super Size Fat Lashes - Collection 2000 | Cover Up Cream - Natural Collection
I tried to tie the colour yellow into my make-up as well but didn't want to go too over the top. I've kept it reasonably simple, using a bright yellow shadow across the majority of my eyelid, and then adding a mid-grey across the crease of my eye. To finish the look I worked black eye shadow to drag out the outer corner of my eye and then added lots of eye liner. I also tried using Vaseline as a primer for the first time, it actually works surprisingly well, so thank you Megan for the tip!
May look a little crazy here ^^
That's it for day one of the 5 Days, 5 Colours challenge. I need to get planning what colour I'll be playing with tomorrow between a morning trip to the gym and a long drive up to Cheshire!
