With Halloween fast approaching, I thought I'd share one of my favourite things about the holiday: fancy dress!
Admittedly I don't usually require much of an excuse to dress up and apply a ridiculous amount of make up, but Halloween is one of the few times in the year that it's considered socially acceptable and other people will even join in! Over the years I've donned many a Halloween costume, although worryingly most of them for random nights in by myself - there are times where I really need supervision - so here's a quick look at some of my fancy dress attempts over the last few years.
Disney night in my freshers year and uni quickly turned into pirate night, with our whole group donning our swords and horrendously chunky jewellery with pride. In case you;re wondering, a room full of pirates dancing to the High School Musical soundtrack looks awesome!
One of many School Daze nights at uni. As you can probably imagine, these nights usually meant lots of girls where very short skirts and even tighter shirts. I decided to break the trend and wear a blazer however this plan was soon aborted after learning it gets really hot on club nights!
The night Obama become President of the United States. The UEA held a star and Stripe club night and broadcast the election results live in one of the student bars. After sitting on the floor with hundreds of other people watching the results and ordering pizza to the bar we finally head back to our rooms at sometime around 6am only to leave a couple of hours later for morning lectures.
A new years eve costume which I have a habit of wearing whenever I'm home alone too long. This was supposed to be a Jane Jetson custome but the wig was awful! It's since been named my hippy space princess from the future dress.
Another night home alone.... I feel way too comfortable with a drawn on moustache and bow tie but sometimes you just have to go with these things.
Thankfully this was a socially acceptable occasion to be in fancy dress! For Josh's birthday we went to a Two of a Kind theme night and became the incredible Daphne and Velma. By the end of the night we'd taken on ninjas and rocked out with Kiss, as you do.
Last Halloween I attended a Batman meets Adventure Time party. Everyone went to so much effort and I was able to become my comic idol, Harley Quinn, for the night! I absolutely adore this costume, it's definitely my favourite fancy dress experience.
What are some of you're fancy dress costumes? I'd love to see some pictures of your Halloween outfits!
